Princess Huanzhu (Chinese: 还珠格格; pinyin: Huánzhū Gégé) is a mysterious woman from the Qing (Manchu) dynasty (1644-1911), under the reign of the Qianlong Emperor (1736-1796). She was rumored to be an illegitimate child of Qianlong and an unknown woman, conceived during Qianlong's travels. Although no record of her is found in the Aisin Gioro family records, there was an unknown grave found with the Manchu royal family that was suspected to be of that illegitimate princess. The famous author Chiung Yao (Qiong Yao) made the story into one of the most popular Chinese television series to date, Huan Zhu Ge Ge, also known as Princess Pearl in English.
Princess Huanzhu herself, if she existed, did not live very long, probably due to the pressures of being an illegitimate child in the royal family, as well as the odd fact that most princesses lived much shorter than princes. Very little else is known about her.
